Car Night Vision System

Driving can be a dangerous ordeal. As much as it may appear as though the aforementioned statement is a little dramatic, the statistics related to car accidents can be staggering. While much of the accidents are caused due to drunk driving, there could be numerous other reasons. Driving at night can be particularly challenging if you are in an area with dim lighting and a decent number of vehicles. The lights from the oncoming vehicles would distort your view and won’t allow you to view the road clearly due to the lack of lighting. This can perhaps make you miss a person who is carelessly crossing or an animal perhaps. One of the ideal ways to counteract this is using car night vision systems.

Car night vision systems have been designed for the very issue that was aforementioned. With car night vision systems, driving at night will certainly be a lot safer, specifically if you travel through a route with inadequate lighting on a frequent basis. Car night vision systems have been actively implemented in vehicles for the past 5 years or so by luxury auto makers such as Mercedes Benz. These car night vision systems are available by default in only a select few vehicles but can be externally installed as an accessory. This is highly recommended for virtually any car to ensure your safety as well as the people on the road. Different technologies are used for the car night vision systems. Most cars use the military standard night vision that is used in night vision goggles. This technology amplifies any light that is inadequate and makes it clearly visible. Additionally, it uses infrared to detect any animal or person on the road. Due to the way it is designed, even inanimate (cold) objects can be detected.

There are other systems however which are less efficient as they simply function using infrared. While it is ideal for spotting animals or people, these systems will not detect rocks or perhaps a dead animal that is obstructing the path on the road which can be dangerous.
Research is currently being done to make car night vision systems smarter and to differentiate from hazards and harmless heat sources.

While car night vision systems are relatively expensive (about $2000), considering the reduction of risk while you are on the road with these devices, they should be certainly considered by every driver.
